Literary Work Analysis

Introduction

This brief paper is intended to respond to and explore a song entitled 'Goodbye' from the Australian legendary sof-rock music group that is namely Air Supply. I chose this song to be responded because this song has an overview of experience in meaning between the honesty that is sometimes painful and one-side feeling of love. In this song, the lyrics are really full about how the hurtful pain of love which is just siding one part of its participants. The feeling then becomes one with the heart's desire not to support the lie that would only lead to the badness. Encouraged by this stance, the lie is metamorphosed into the sincerity that is likely originally imposed. For linkages that exist in every lyric, I can conclude that this song implies a wrecked feeling of love because the principle of honesty that led to one statement that 'love is not enforceable'.

Response to the song

In line with the song’s lyrics, this song reminds me to my own love story several times ago. Based on my experience, I indeed believe that love is impossible to reach if there is not the same feeling on both ends, man and woman. I also believe that the feeling of love cannot be forced and distracted by anyone in this world. Love came to me along with her presence in my life. She was loving and caring to me. I found it difficult and hard to reject or accept those treatments, I was lame to treat her back as like she treated me. I want to tell her that ‘you are like the moon that is always shining on the dark side of earth’. I will never be able to repay the light you gave to my life. As like in one lyric of this song, ‘I just cannot live a lie anymore’, I do not want to hurt her more than this. Therefore, as in a lyric in this song, 'I would rather hurt myself than to ever make you cry, there is nothing left to say but goodbye', it would be better to say that we could not stay together.

Conclusion

In brief, honesty is sometimes painful, but it is better than a bad lie. The lie will always end with the pain. Love should be based on honesty between both parties, both man and woman. In everyday life, there is no love that deserves to get a bad lie. Only true love that promotes fairness and a genuine feeling to accept one another. Because of true love, both parties will mutually feel and state that ‘losing you is really painful to me’. So that, the true love will lead to the true happiness of life.

Pendahuluan

Sebuah karya kecil ini bertujuan untuk merespon dan mengeksplorasi sebuah lagu yang berjudul ‘Goodbye’ (selamat tinggal) dari grup musik aliran soft-rock legendaris asal Australia yaitu Air Supply. Saya memilih lagu ini untuk direspon karena lagu ini memiliki gambaran tentang pengalaman dalam memaknai antara kejujuran yang terkadang menyakitkan dengan rasa cinta yang bertepuk sebelah tangan. Dalam lagu ini, lirik-liriknya sangat kental akan bagaimana rasa sakit hati yang hanya memihak sebelah. Rasa tersebut kemudian menjadi satu dengan keinginan hati untuk tidak mendukung kebohongan yang dirasa hanya akan berakhir pada keburukan. Terdorong oleh pendirian tersebut, kebohongan itu bermetamorfosis menjadi ketulusan hati yang pada awalnya dipaksakan. Sebab keterhubungan yang ada dalam setiap liriknya ini, saya dapat menyimpulkan bahwa lagu ini menyiratkan perasaan cinta yang kandas karena prinsip kejujuran sehingga memunculkan klise ‘cinta tidak mungkin bisa untuk dipaksakan’.

Respon terhadap lagu

Sejalan dengan lirik-lirik yang ada, lagu ini mengingatkanku kepada pengalaman kisah cintaku beberapa waktu yang lalu. Berdasarkan pengalaman tersebut, saya yakin bahwa memang cinta tidak dapat dipaksakan. Cinta datang kepadaku bersama dengan hadirnya dia dalam hidupku. Dia yang sangat mencintaiku, sangat perhatian kepadaku. Aku merasa berat untuk menolak maupun menerima semua itu. Aku ingin mengatakan kepadanya ‘kau layaknya bulan yang senantiasa menyinari bumi yang gelap gulita’. Aku takkan pernah bisa membalas cahaya yang kau berikan pada hidupku. Aku hanya tidak bisa hidup dalam dusta lagi. Aku tak ingin melukai dirimu lebih dari ini. Oleh karena itu, seperti dalam sebuah lirik dalam lagu ini, ‘Aku lebih memilih melukai diriku sendiri, Tak ada lagi yang bisa dikatakan selain selamat tinggal’, kita takkan mungkin untuk terus bersama.

Kesimpulan

Secara singkat, kejujuran memang menyakitkan namun itu lebih baik daripada satu kebohongan. Cinta harus dilandasi dengan kejujuran hati antara kedua belah pihak, baik laki-laki maupun perempuan. Tidak ada cinta yang pantas untuk mendapatkan kebohongan yang buruk. Hanya cinta sejatilah yang mengutamakan kejujuran hati dan perasaan yang tulus menerima satu sama lain. Karena cinta yang sejati, kedua belah pihak akan saling merasa dan menyatakan bahwa ‘Kehilanganmu sangat menyakitkan bagiku’. Oleh karena itu, cinta sejati akan menuju kepada kebahagiaan hidup.

Literary Work Analysis

Introduction

This short story whose the title is ‘Tai Lalat’ by Pramoedya Ananta Toer has many interesting things in my mind in order to set out the whole story. When I read it for the first time, I found it difficult for me to understand the message inside it because there are lots of word dictions and also the language use (in most of conversations and sentence/clause structures). In my own perspective, I myself actually could not make it easy to map out the meanings or experiences that are provided by the author of this short story even it is written in Indonesian language. So that, after I read it again and again, at last I can considerably conclude that this short story tells about the experience of injustice, inconveniences, and mistreatments that happened in the period after the colonialism period or Independence proclamation of Indonesia period (1946-1979).

In my point of view I have found something likely that this story somehow has many complicated dictions of Indonesian language. Those can be seen from the first line of this story and the following conversations provided. Some things like Tai lalat, digul/digulis, tapol, and the plot of the story really made me confused everytime when I tried to read it again. However, the story implied that injustices, mistreatments, inconveniences, and immoralities might happen to everybody, old or young, in this world until the death. But, it is considerably like an unwritten rule for people that they necessarily have not any choice except to struggle and survive in this world. The pains that they have to pay merely are some of worthful things to become good people and to reach the good life. I think that is the message of this short story.

Conclusion

In line with the story, it reminds me that life is not like a straight road, but it is such full twisted and complicated path. No one knows how it can be and will be. I remembered when I was 13 years old or in junior high school period. I really have ever felt one incovenience at that time. It is really painful to remember, but it might be a lesson for anyone not only me. A man who I didn’t know accused me that I had stolen his sandals. He was accompanied by one of his friend at that time. I refused to acknowledge it because I really didn’t do that. But then, he didn’t believe me and finally he decided to hit my face with one of his sandal. Then, suddenly my tears were dropped to my face. Still, it really hurts me until now if I try to remember it again. But, I believe that this experience does make me stronger and able to survive in this world until the end of my life.
